Catechism
“Proclaim the Gospel” – Santhome Catechism School
The Bible teaches us a powerful lesson about what truly matters in life: even if you gain everything the world has to offer, it's meaningless if you lose your soul. This highlights that our "soul," representing our inner self, our spirit, and our connection to what's good, is the most valuable thing we possess. Therefore, as parents and educators, while we strive to provide our children with opportunities and material comforts, it's even more crucial to nurture their spiritual well-being. This is precisely the purpose of Catechism. It's a journey that helps young people understand and care for their souls, recognizing that a strong inner foundation is far more important than any external success.
The Holy Bible also tells us that "you are the temple of God," meaning God's presence resides within each of us. Catechism helps children explore and discover this divine presence inside themselves. It teaches them fundamental principles, such as God creating us to love Him and to love one another. By learning about God's commandments, Catechism guides children to live lives that are pleasing to both God and those around them, becoming "the light of the world and the salt of the earth" as Jesus intended. Through years of consistent teaching, Catechism builds a strong spiritual foundation, ultimately preparing young individuals to embody the qualities of Christ – to be "another Christ" – in their daily lives.
Santhome Catechism School is one of the best schools in Mandya Diocese, nurturing around 360 children from Bible nursery to Class XII with the guidance of 25 dedicated teachers. Beyond standard textbook lessons, teachers at Santhome actively encourage students to participate in regular confession, adoration, and charity work, fostering a holistic spiritual development. Engaging activities like Bible quizzes, Bible Kalotsavam, and studies on the lives of saints help students deeply understand and live by the word of God. The school also organizes special retreats to enhance children's faith and leadership abilities. To instill compassion, outreach programs to orphanages and old age homes are regularly conducted. The school's success is a testament to the passionate, collaborative efforts of the Vicar, Assistant Vicar, trustees, teachers, and parents.
