Mathruvedhi
A warm, welcoming circle of vibrant mothers, bound closely by faith and devotion, with Mother Mary as our cherished Patron Saint, along with the saintly mothers – St. Monica and St. Gianna, our co-patrons. That, is Santhome Mathruvedhi.
More than just a local fellowship, Santhome Mathruvedhi is a thriving community networked with mothers in Syrian Catholic churches across the world through our affiliation with the Global Mathruvedhi. From humble beginnings, shortly after our church first opened its doors, Santhome Mathruvedhi has blossomed into one of our parish's most dynamic and impactful groups.

Santhome Mathruvedhi: A Growing Family, Guided by Caring Hands

At the heart of the Santhome Mathruvedhi are the 100+ dedicated members, skilfully guided by our Parish Vicar, Fr. Thomas Kattuthuruthiyil. Supporting him are the executive leaders who help manage and direct our many initiatives. Adding a crucial layer of spiritual inspiration and practical support, Sr. Gracy, the Mother Superior of Marillac Convent, serves as the Animator. This collaborative leadership ensures the Mathruvedhi remains a vital and impactful part of our parish community.

A Journey of Faith
"Our spiritual journey has been the cornerstone of our organization."
In Santhome Mathruvedhi, we complement our regular monthly meetings with a rich calendar of programs designed to enhance spiritual growth with The Holy Rosary of Mother Mary as the heartbeat of our spiritual gatherings.
Weekly Prayer Gatherings: Every Wednesday, members gather in the perpetual adoration chapel for devoted adoration and recitation of the Holy Rosary.
Akhanda Japamala: A continuous prayer vigil, held on the last Wednesday of every month. And on the 13th of each month, a unique practice unfolds: 2,000 Hail Mary prayers are offered, a cascade of petitions for countless intentions.
Mia Familia: Throughout October, daily prayers are dedicated specifically to each Mathruvedhi members and their families.
Commemoration of the Departed: November is a time for commemorating the departed. Santhome Mathruvedhi initiates a chain of St. Gertrude prayers, inviting all parishioners to participate. Members visit the Roman Catholic cemeteries of Sacred Heart Church and St. Patrick's Church in November to offer prayers for the departed souls of our parish and those who hold a special place in our hearts.
Annual Adoration: An annual 13-hour adoration, a profound testament to our faith that draws an overwhelming number of parishioners, a true outpouring of devotion.
Lenten Observance: As part of our Lenten observance, we make a pilgrimage, praying the Way of the Cross and reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Building Bridges and Spreading Joy
For us in the Santhome Mathruvedhi, our mission goes beyond prayer; it's about building strong connections within our community and celebrating the vibrant tapestry of life.
Festive Celebrations: When Onam arrives, we wear our traditional attire, share a sumptuous Onam sadya, and enjoy captivating cultural performances throughout the day. And at Christmas, we exchange gifts, organize lively games, and share a delicious Christmas dinner, lovingly prepared by every single one of us. These celebrations truly bring us all closer.
Honouring and Nurturing Our Community: We also take special care to honour those who tirelessly contribute to our society. We proudly celebrate International Nurses Day and Mother's Day, recognizing the invaluable roles nurses and mothers play in all our lives. And with a keen eye towards our shared home, on Environment Day, we actively participate by planting trees and distributing saplings, nurturing a greener and healthier future for everyone.
Supporting Well-being and Extending Care: Our commitment to growth and well-being shines beyond celebrations. Experts talks are organized on vital topics like parenting, stress management, and health, offering valuable insights to members and beyond. Our care extends deeply into the community. We make regular home visits to the elderly, the sick, and new mothers, strengthening our unwavering commitment to providing comfort and support along with regular visits to old age homes, orphanages, and homes for the destitute, demonstrating our profound community sentiment and care. During Lent, we even organize an annual blood donation camp in collaboration with Nimhans Hospital—a true act of selfless giving. And when Holy Week arrives, we ensure that confession and Holy Communion reach the sick and elderly in the comfort of their own homes. We also play a crucial role in providing financial aid to patients, easing burdens, and offering hope, reflecting our devotion to charity.
Faith in Action: A Legacy of Excellence
The spirit of faith, devotion, and community truly shines in the competitive and participatory zeal of the Santhome Mathruvedhi members. Our members are enthusiastic contenders, diving headfirst into challenges like Ammakaruth, a program that showcases the diverse talents of our mothers. They also excel in the Bible Verse Writing Competition - a testament to their dedication to scripture, the powerful Video Representation of the Way of the Cross - which beautifully blends artistic expression with profound devotion, and showcase our cultural heritage and unity in the cultural competitions and programs, among many other activities that strengthen our community bonds.
Their dedication hasn't gone unnoticed. For two consecutive years, Santhome Mathruvedhi has proudly earned the Best Unit Award in the Diocese, a gleaming testament to their unwavering commitment. This consistent success, carefully guided by the Father Vicar and fuelled by the active participation of every single member, swells our parish with immense pride.

Planning for a Greater Impact
The secret to Santhome Mathruvedhi's strength lies in its meticulous planning. During their regular executive meetings, they carefully craft programs that are not unique and impactful but also truly beneficial for our community and beyond. As we look to the future, we aspire to expand our membership, envisioning an even wider array of innovative programs that will foster a profoundly positive impact, further strengthening the bonds of faith, devotion, and community service for years to come.
